Infrastructure / FIELD GUIDE

Proxmox at the infrastructure layer.

Virtualization and website publishing solve different problems. Use an infrastructure-level view to plan where workloads run, then keep guest systems and application workflows clearly owned.

Distinguish host and guest responsibilities

Proxmox VE documents KVM virtual machines, LXC containers, and web-based management. Those capabilities belong to the virtualization layer. The operating system and applications inside a guest still need their own updates, access policies, monitoring, and recovery tests.

Choose isolation for the workload

Compare a virtual machine and a container against kernel requirements, access boundaries, storage needs, and recovery procedures. Containers share the host kernel; virtual machines provide a separate guest operating-system environment. Neither choice removes the need to manage permissions carefully.

Plan recovery beyond one host

Identify the failure boundary your backups address. Keep recovery material where losing the original host does not automatically lose the only copy. Test restoring a representative guest and the application state inside it, including external data that a guest-level backup may not contain.
