Infrastructure / FIELD GUIDE

Understand the server beneath the site.

A server admin platform is only useful when the machine has a known purpose and an owner. Build your workflow around access, services, updates, observation, and recovery—not the number of graphs on a dashboard.

Map the responsibility boundary

Separate the provider account, the operating system, the hosting panel, and the application. Determine who maintains each layer and where a problem should be investigated first. A provider service and an application process are not interchangeable operational responsibilities.

Keep administration reachable, not public by default

Before changing remote access, verify an alternative recovery path. Document which network interfaces and services should be reachable and by whom. Reconcile provider network settings with host settings instead of assuming one screen describes the complete route.

Operate for the bad day

Choose actionable alerts, maintain a tested recovery copy, and keep a short change history. A second operator should be able to identify what is running, why it exists, and how to restore it without depending on the original administrator’s memory.

Choose your next path.
